Javier Villanueva - Class Of 1968 VIEW PROFILE

Javier Villanueva, “J.V.” and “The Dean of Tejano”, went to be with the Lord June 10, 2011, at the age of 61 surrounded by his family. He was born in Alice, Texas on June 10, 1950 to Antonio and Ernestina Villanueva.

Javier was one of the founders of the Tejano Roots Hall of Fame and Museum. He dedicated his life’s work to promoting the recognition of Tejano Musicians young and old, past and present, famous and up and coming. Javier, known in the music industry as “The Dean of Tejano”, spent years as a local radio personality as well as a manager for such Tejano acts as the late Laura Canales, Los Fabulosos Cuatro and Carlos Guzman. Javier received the “Tejano Magazine Tejano Music Person of the Year” award in 2005. On September 18, 2004, the Mayor of Alice proclaimed September 18 as Javier “J.V.” Villanueva Day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Ernestina “Tina” Villanueva.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ester Villanueva of San Diego, Texas; sons, Javier Antoine (Merlinda) Villanueva of Frisco, Texas, Jose A. (Jenny) Rodriguez of Alice, Texas, Johnny (Mandy) Rodriguez of San Diego, Texas; and son-pet, Pookie Villanueva of San Diego, Texas; one daughter, Eva (Pete) Garcia of Houston, Texas; grandfather, Raul Hernandez of McAllen, Texas; brothers, Antonio G. (Rosie) Villanueva, Jr. of Temple, Texas and Tony “Buddy” Villanueva of Mexico; sister, Gloria “Puggy” Scoyola of Spring, Texas; brothers in law, Robert (Elia) Garcia of San Diego, Texas, Roel (Diana) Garcia of San Diego, Texas, Raul (Vicky) Garcia of Alice, Texas, and Jose Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters in law, Thelma (Ranulfo) Villarreal of San Diego, Texas and Cynthia Garcia of San Diego, Texas; ten grandchildren, Erika Rae Garcia of Austin, Texas, Brittany N. (Cody) Gibson of Frisco, Texas, Kimberly Ann (Tanner) Burgess of Frisco, Texas, Ashley D. Garcia of Frisco, Texas; Natasha N. Rodriguez of San Diego, Texas, Daniel J. Rodriguez of San Diego, Texas, Jon Anthony Rodriguez of San Diego, Texas, Leandra J. Rodriguez of Alice, Texas, Joshua A. Rodriguez of San Diego, Texas and Kyra S. Rangel of San Diego, Texas; one great grandson, Ayden Madison Burgess of Frisco, Texas.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 13, 2011, from 3 till 9 p.m. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary being held at 7 p.m. that evening. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial to follow at New Collins Cemetery.
