Petra Imelda “Patty” Balboa was born on January 27, 1955 to Guadalupe R. and Carmen P. Garza and raised in Corpus Christi and Alice, Texas. She married her husband, Alejandro “Alex” Balboa of 34 years on June 13, 1981. She graduated from Alice High School in 1973. Patty was employed by Alice Independent School District for 30 years at Salazar Elementary. She will always be remembered for her love of laughter, while always cracking jokes and holding “high court” with dear friends and relatives. Her service to the Alice Community to honor her son, Tony’s memory included a foundation that awarded annual Alice High School Scholarships, local blood drives, Habitat for Humanity, Cycle Kids and Donate Life.

Patty was preceded in death by her beloved son, Tony; her father, Guadalupe R. Garza Jr. and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Patty is survived by her husband, Alejandro “Alex” Balboa of Alice, Texas; mother, Carmen P Garza of Alice, Texas, brother, Guadalupe R. (Esther) Garza of Corpus Christi, Texas, sister, Rosa E. Garza of San Antonio and brother, Jesse M. (Julie) Garza of San Antonio, Texas. Other survivors include nephews, Robert, Matthew and Joseph Garza and Gabriel Elizondo; nieces, Andrea (Juan) Cruz, Kristen (Bryan) Ellis and Sarah Garza.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas with a Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Alice Cemetery.
