Obituary of Robert Carl Bedgood
IN THE CARE OF
Robert Carl Bedgood, known to all as Carl, was born on August 31, 1951, in Alice, Texas, to Raymond and Ruth Bedgood. He passed away on January 28, 2026.

A devout Catholic, Carl lived a life shaped by faith, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to others. His greatest source of pride was his family, especially his wife, five daughters, and twelve grandchildren, who gave meaning and purpose to every stage of his life. In his absence, the world feels a little less colorful.

Carl shared 45 devoted years of marriage with his beloved wife, Laura. Together, they built both a family and a life’s work, raising five daughters and later founding and operating a title company side by side for forty years. Their partnership reflected not only professional dedication, but also the strength, loyalty, and respect at the heart of their marriage.

Even while building and running a business, Carl always made time for what mattered most. He coached all of his children’s sports, including track, soccer, and softball, and was a constant presence on the sidelines and in the stands. To countless young athletes, he was simply known as “Mr. Bedgood,” a steady coach, mentor, and example of discipline and encouragement.

Carl earned a degree in criminal justice from Southwest Texas State University and began his career in law enforcement with the Austin Police Department in the 1970s. While working in law enforcement, he attended law school, ultimately earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law. He began his practice as a prosecutor in Galveston, before entering the oil and gas industry as an examiner and eventually opening his own title company with Laura. Throughout his professional life, he was guided by a deep respect for the law, fairness, and hard work.

Beyond his work, Carl loved to travel. He and Laura shared a love for the beach, for diving, and for exploring the world together, creating memories that will be treasured always.

Carl was always in motion, not out of restlessness, but out of purpose. He especially loved being at the lake and in the pool with his grandchildren. The temperature never mattered. If they were in the water, Carl was there too. At home, he carried that same energy into caring for the outdoors and shaping the landscape around him.

He also cherished quieter time with family and friends, especially gathered around a table playing board games. Spinner was a favorite, and Uno was another, and he was always a good sport, even when the grandchildren beat him repeatedly.

Carl is survived by his wife, Laura Bedgood; his daughters, Tambri Tagliabue and her husband, David; Alysia Bedgood and her partner, Drew; Tasha Culberson and her husband, Jack; Amanda Collins and her husband, Shane; and Cassie Zimbelman and her husband, Adam; and his twelve grandchildren, David Tagliabue Jr., Sage Tagliabue, Nixon Martino, Dash Martino, McKenzie Culberson, Kailey Culberson, Kierra Culberson, Miles Pierce, Charlotte Collins, Wyatt Collins, Alexandria Zimbelman, and Cameron Zimbelman; his four siblings, John Bedgood and his wife, Virginia; Raylene Weglarz, and her husband, Bob; Ilene Thomas; and Joe Bedgood; and numerous nieces and nephews, who will carry forward his legacy of faith, integrity, strength, and devotion to family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ruth Bedgood and brother-in-law's Terry Welch and Cliff Thomas.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many physicians and nurses who cared for Carl with compassion. The family is especially grateful to close family friend, Tina Curtis, who was by Laura's side every step of the way.

A rosary will be recited at half past one o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday the 3rd of February 2026 at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory with a funeral mass to begin at two o’clock in the afternoon. The Rite of Committal will follow, via an escorted cortege, to Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Culberson, David Tagliabue, Adam Zimbelman, Shane Collins, David Tagliabue Jr, Miles Pierce, Drew Jeppesen and Quinn Lienen. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Bedgood, Steven Bedgood, Billie Ray Thomas and Neil Lienen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Raisin Volunteer Fire Department, or Harbor Hospice in his memory.
