Various oilfield jobs from the 70's to mid 80's. Mid 80's to 1990 I served as an emergency forest fire fighter for Idaho Dept. of Land, and the US Forestry Service. I was based in Coeur d'Alene and fought fires in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Montana. During the winter months, I drove a taxi in Yakima WA. I also did volunteer work for Northwest Harvest and Teen Challenge.

November 1989 I came back to Alice. I met my spouse at my MD's office. She proposed to me on our second date. We were married one month and one day after we met and are going to be celebrating 20 years together on the tenth of February.

I serviced and sold fire extinguishers from San Antonio to Houston and as far south as Brownsville.

I graduated from Del Mar College, Summa cum laude, in 2005 with a degree in Occupational Safety and Health. I am an alumni member of Phi Theta Kappa, and completed my studies with a 4.00 g.p.a. It was hard to do this and teach 50 plus hours a week at the Safety Council.

I am again employed with the Contractor's Safety Council in Corpus as a safety instructor. I was previously employed for ten years there and transferred to the Houston Safety Council for two years. I taught at the NASA annex, teaching contractors entering the NASA facility.

What do I look like? I have been told many times at both Safety Councils that I look like Drew Carey. I weigh 250lbs and wear a flat top hair cut. I also wear black framed glasses.

I had the honor of singing with the Corpus Christi Chorale and serving on their Board of Directors. In Houston, I sang with the Houston Symphony Chorus and was preparing for an audition with the Houston Grand Opera. All these plans came to an end on Sept 12, 2008 when Hurricane Ike came for a visit. We lost our home as well as our livelihood. Ike destroyed almost all we had. We left with all the clothes and food we could pack in our small Kia and evacuated to Campbellton. Through the kindness of friends, we now reside in Alice. We are still getting back on our feet and it will take a while to get our affairs in order. We were planning to attend my class reunion but, we had to deal with the aftermath of Ike. I thank Cheri Snelling for sending me a CD of the events.

I want to resume my other passion in life, music.
I have one room that houses my music collection. I currently have close to 700 choral CD's that I was able to salvage from our home in Houston. Fortunately that room was unscathed by Ike.

I plan to audition with the Corpus Christi Chorale this summer and perform with them next season. My voice range is Tenor I and Countertenor.

At this moment, I have the lap top on my lap. Gayle sleeping on the couch, and our dog Oopsie is sleeping on the recliner.
When I finish this profile, I will hook up my company laptop and prepare to teach a class in the morning for Corpus Christi Water Dept.

School Story:

Funny memory regarding Wallace Arthur and Bill Bailey:

During the summer of 69 when I was entering the 9th grade as a freshman, my cousin Douglas Thorp '74 Pettus High, came to visit me the last week of school. We were walking home from Memorial, when Wallace and Bill took us to Bill's home for Freshman initiation. We both enjoyed the cool haircuts they gave us. They gave me a Mohawk and my cousin they shaved him bald.

What Bill and Wallace did not know, that my cousin was visiting and was a grade behind me to boot. The look on their faces; hee hee was priceless when they found out that they initiated Douglas by mistake. My Mom thought it was funny, but my Aunt Faye, well, that is another story!
