Samuel Butler - Class Of 1965 VIEW PROFILE

Samuel Butler, age 67, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014.

He died at Presbyterian Hospital in downtown Albuquerque from a massive heart attack he sustained on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, in the late afternoon.

He was born in Alice, Texas, to Maria Vesper and Samuel Doss Butler Jr. on Jan. 8, 1947.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marilyn Butler; and their four children, Dr. James Hockenberry, Dr. David Butler, Claudia Butler and Courtney Butler; his grandchildren, Alyssa Butler, Elizabeth Butler, Haley Hockenberry and Grant Hockenberry; his brother, Dr. Ronald Butler; his half-brother, William Mangum; his half-sister, Shawn Gaspas; and his many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by both his parents, as well as two younger brothers.

He was a dedicated teacher for 35 years, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, and he will be sorely missed.

His memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, 3:30 p.m., at French-Westside with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the New Mexico Humane Society or the Go Fund Me Campaign “Sam Butler’s Memorial Fund” (gofundme.com/jdqsow) to assist his widow with remaining medical expenses from his treatments.
