Obituary

Laura Taplin, age 71, entered the gates of heaven after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, surrounded by family in Alice, Texas.

Laura was born in Edinburg, Texas on August 22, 1950 to Theadore "Blackie" Snelling and Irene Grover Snelling.  She was a devoted baptized catholic, who attended Saint Elizabeth Catholic School.  She was a proud Alice Coyote, "Class of 1968" graduate of William Adams High School.  She worked at Gibson’s Discount Store until she married Russel Taplin at First Baptist Church on June 19th, 1970.  They then moved to Odessa, Texas where she worked at the bank as a teller until she had her three children.  After eight years, they moved back to Alice, Texas.  She worked for the Alice Echo Newspaper for many years, worked at Shriver Office Supply, then went on to work in sales at Wilson Supply where she retired.  She loved catching up with old friends, trips to Goodwill, and playing cards with family.  She enjoyed her retirement days and her last years on the beautiful family compound in the comfort of her loving family.

Laura was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who always put her family's needs before hers.  She was a wonderful friend to all who knew her. Regardless of when she came into your life, you became a life-long friend of hers.  She was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need.  She will be remembered for her kindness and her loving heart. Laura will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; Ted Snelling Sr. and Irene Snelling, and her sister Darylene Hunter.

Laura is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Russel Taplin of Alice Texas, and three children; Reagan (Jill) Taplin of Seattle, Washington, Skye (Chris) Collier of Corpus Christi, Texas, Cyndy Taplin (Rick Gloria) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and her brother Ted (Cheri) Snelling II of Alice, Texas.  She is also survived by her three grandchildren; Noah Garcia, Willow Costley, and Dillon Gloria.

A private burial service with family and friends will be held at Alice Cemetery and will be followed with a celebration of life held at the family compound in Alice to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please make a donation to your favorite charity in Laura's name.

Arrangements are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas.
