Lonnie Adams Obituary

Lonnie Ralph Adams, January 3, 1948 – December 10, 2024

Lonnie Ralph Adams, 76, of Alice, TX, has become one with that which he loved most – nature. There are no plans to taxidermize him like the many bucks he worked on over the years. But if there were, he would be positioned happily at his leatherworking station finishing up his latest project.

Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, who accompanied him on his adventures for nearly 56 years. From a life in Germany, where they motorcycled around Europe, to a stay in Brownfield, Oregon, the pair never shied away from experiencing what the world had to offer.

He is also survived by his only son, Jonathan (Alexia); sisters, Nita and Neva; nephews, Adam, David, Chuck; nieces, Connie, Carla, Christy, Carol and Cindy; as well as numerous great nephews and nieces, each of whom he loves dearly despite his persistent teasing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Humphrey and Reba; brother, Horace; and sister, Noni.

Lonnie is a proud veteran, volunteering his services to the United States Army during the Vietnam War. But more importantly, he is a talented and caring father and husband

He is the local renaissance man who loves traditional artistry, including woodworking, leatherworking, taxidermy, painting, drawing and stain glass to name a few. His love for art is so great, he is known to scrap his work if it doesn’t meet his incredibly high standards.

Lonnie graduated from Alice High School, where he was known to be a terror to his teachers. And in an ironic twist of fate, he wound up becoming an educator himself. He remains an inspiration, adviser and father figure to the many students he taught over the years.

But despite his many talents and accomplishments, the art he is most proud to present every year is his homemade chili, which is made from different game he kept secret from everyone.

Lonnie was buried at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, December 19, 2024. To celebrate him, have yourself a meal at your favorite restaurant and order a Texas Tea.
