Joan Goldthorn (Drake) - Class Of 1969 VIEW PROFILE

Joan Celeste Goldthorn Drake
Alice, TX

Joan Celeste Goldthorn Drake passed away March 12, 2012 in a San Antonio hospital. She was 60. Joan was born October 4, 1951 in Alice to Barney and Celeste Carlisle Goldthorn. She graduated from William Adams High School in 1969 then received her Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&I in 1972 where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She taught in Flour Bluff and then in Alice for 28 years. Joan's greatest joy in life came from spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and her Ya-Ya's. She was happiest when her house was full and when everyone was taken care of as only she knew how to do. She was a dynamo of activity, whether coordinating the next skit for the Ya-Ya conclaves, thinking of new ways to move furniture and decorate, making a house a home, finding new things to learn and explore with Grant and Harper, or traveling with Duane. A beloved teacher, a best friend and confidant to so many, a fiercely devoted wife of 38 years, an ideal mother, a lifelong Catholic, Joan was a rare treasure of a person who was loved by all and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Duane Drake of New Braunfels; one daughter, Lauren Drake of Houston; one son, Brandon (Christian) Drake of Austin; two sisters, Judith (Billy) Brown of Bandera and Cecile Goldthorn of Charlotte, NC; and two grandchildren, Grant and Harper Drake of Austin.

Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Alice Cemetery.
Joan was a board member and volunteer at the Alice Food Pantry and she would want any remembrances to benefit their behalf.
