A 1968 graduate of William Adams High School, Vivian was the daughter of Elisio and Domitila Valdez. She began her career with the City of Corpus Christi in 1985 and had completed 25 years of service. During her tenure with the city, she received various promotions and recognition for her dedication to her job. Her most recent position was with the Water Division as a Management Assistant. Preceding her in death were her son whom she referred to as Baby Ray and her father. Surviving family members include her husband of 25 years, Carlos Benavides, son Eli Aaron Benavides, mother Domitila Valdez, sisters Mary Hughes, Petra Sifuentes (Juan), brothers Eliseo Valdez, Jr., Candelario Guadalupe Valdez (Martha) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. All family and friends knew her as a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt and dedicated employee. She took great pride in providing a loving and welcoming home for all her family and friends. Gardening was one of her favorite hobbies. Despite her illness, she continued to share her beautiful attitude and filled the room with her beautiful smiles and laughter. As the oldest of the family, she led with great compassion and love to all her family members. Her loss will be deeply felt by all of them as well as to those at her workplace. A devout catholic, she received rites of the Anointing of the Sick and her family was privileged in her last hours to share in prayers. She had served her church as a Eucharistic Minister. A rosary was recited and her life celebrated with a memorial service on August 28, 2010 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. It is the wishes of the family that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the foundation of Susan G. Komer dedicated to the cure of breast cancer or the charity of your choice.
