Belinda Cardenas

Alice - Belinda Cardenas, 74, passed away Saturday August 21, 2021 while hospitalized in Corpus Christi. She was married for 51 years and had retired from the Tx. Dept. of Health and Human Services in 2000 after working for them as a clerk/typist for over 30 years.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Cursillistas. She enjoyed attending church, church fellowships, Ultreyas, Jamaicafest and prayer groups up until her health did not permit it. She loved baking and was known for making the best pan de polvo. She liked gifting it, especially at Christmas. She also enjoyed reading scripture and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her stepfather, Bernabe C. Vargas, her mother, Gregoria P. Vargas, her father, Florentino B. Pena, stepmother, Angelina Pena, and a niece, Lisa Vargas, all of Alice.

She is survived by her husband, Alberto (Beto) Cardenas, 2 sons, Javier Vargas of Houston and Alberto Cardenas Jr. of Houston, and a daughter, Maribel Garcia, of Corpus Christi. Also, 2 sisters, Angie Pena Garza and Katie Barrera (Luis), both of Alice. She is survived by six brothers. Albert Trafton (Margie) of Alice, Bernabe Vargas (Rosario) of Alice, Pedro Vargas (Lydia) of Alice, Sabas Vargas (Maggie)of Magnolia, Willie Pena (Irma) of Ben Bolt and Rolando (Gloria) of Alice. Also, eight grandchildren: Katrina Vargas of Alice, Javier Vargas Jr. of Florida, Michael Vargas of Houston, Alberto (Tre) Cardenas III of Houston, Daniel Garcia of Corpus Christi and Caitlyn Garcia of Corpus Christi, and 2 honorary grandsons, Alberto Ibanez and Nicolas Ibanez of Alice. Six great-grandchildren: Zachary Narvaiz, Gabriel Vargas, Raul Cantu III, Jake Cantu, Ayden Cantu and Kevin Vargas. Also survived by an aunt, Gloria Traversie, of Fort Worth, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff from Spohn Hospital of Alice and Corpus Christi, Dr. Sergio Cantu, Dr. Bridget Sanders, Dr. Jorge Vazquez, and Del Cielo Home Care for all their care and dedication.
